Why the second session matters

InkLore editorial · 3 min read

Large pieces are rarely finished in one sitting. What the artist is actually waiting for between appointments.

Between sessions the skin does two things at once: it heals, and it settles. Lines that were crisp can open slightly, and fields of colour can drop a shade. The second appointment is where that reality is corrected.

The artist is not redoing the work. They are filling, evening out and closing edges now that the pigment has found its final depth in the skin.

This is why a piece quoted as two sessions should be booked as two sessions. Squeezing the second pass into a tired first appointment is how outlines end up patchy.
